But what's in a name, you ask?

Gipper, the Original Taco Bell Dog

Let's rewind to the late '90s, when a little Chihuahua named Gipper stole our hearts. He was sassy, he was spunky, and he had a catchphrase that's still stuck in our heads: "Yo quiero Taco Bell!" He was the face of the brand, the star of their commercials, and he even had his own merchandise. But alas, like all good things, his reign came to an end. But the question remained: Who would be the next Taco Bell dog?

Enter the New Generation

In 2016, Taco Bell decided it was time for a new pup to take the reins. They launched a nationwide search, and thousands of hopeful dogs applied. But only one could be the next Taco Bell dog. And that, dear readers, is where the name game begins.

Meet Reese, the New Taco Bell Dog

After much deliberation, Taco Bell crowned Reese as the new spokesdog. Now, you might be thinking, "Why Reese? What's so special about that name?" Well, let me tell you, it's all about the story behind it.

You see, Reese was named after the late, great Reese Witherspoon. Yes, that's right. The Academy Award-winning actress is the inspiration behind our favorite fast-food pup. Why, you ask? Well, it turns out that Reese Witherspoon is a big fan of Taco Bell. She's even been known to indulge in a late-night feast or two. So, when Taco Bell was looking for a name that embodied their fun, lively spirit, they knew Reese was the perfect fit.
