Who's That Guy?

First things first, who is this Dave Thomas character? Well, if you're a fan of comedy, you're in luck! Dave is a Canadian actor, comedian, and writer, best known for his work on Saturday Night Live (SNL) and in movies like Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

Born in Toronto, Dave started his comedy career in the late 70s, performing with the comedy troupe Second City. It wasn't long before he caught the eye of SNL's Lorne Michaels, and the rest, as they say, is history.

SNL: Where It All Began

Dave joined SNL in 1980, alongside fellow comedians Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscopo. Together, they turned the show into a must-watch. Dave's impressions were spot-on, from John Belushi to James Brown, and his characters, like Mr. Robinson and Lyle the Effeminate Homosexual, had us in stitches.

But it wasn't just laughs. Dave also brought heart to the show. Remember Café Noir, the sketch where he played a struggling jazz musician? It was a masterclass in comedy and drama, all rolled into one.

Dave on the Big Screen

While SNL was Dave's home, he also made a splash on the big screen. In Planes, Trains and Automobiles, he played Neal Page, a high-strung marketing executive trying to get home for Thanksgiving. It's a classic comedy, and Dave's performance is nothing short of brilliant.

He also starred in The Final Insult, My Blue Heaven, and Canadian Bacon. Each role was different, but they all had one thing in common: Dave's ability to make us laugh, think, and feel.

Dave's Legacy

Dave retired from acting in 2002, but his legacy lives on. He's inspired generations of comedians, and his work continues to make us laugh, even today. He's a true comedy legend, and we're all the better for it.
