How Many Albums Of Thriller Were Sold

So, there I was, scrolling through my Spotify playlist the other day, when I stumbled upon Thriller. You know, that iconic album by the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson. It got me thinking, "Just how many times has this masterpiece been played, bought, and loved around the world?" And that, my friends, is how this little journey into the world of record sales began.

Let's Talk Numbers

Alright, let's dive right in. According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Thriller has sold over 33 million copies in the United States alone. That's right, just in the U.S.! But wait, there's more. The album has also sold over 66 million copies worldwide. Yes, you read that right - sixty-six million.

Now, I know what you're thinking, "Wow, that's a lot!" And you're absolutely right. But let's put that into perspective. If you were to stack those 66 million albums, they would reach about 100,000 miles high. That's more than four times the distance from the Earth to the Moon!

Why So Many?

You might be wondering, "What makes Thriller so special?" Well, my friend, it's a combination of factors. First off, it's Michael Jackson we're talking about. The man was a musical genius who could dance like no other. He was, and still is, a global phenomenon.

But Thriller wasn't just about Jackson's star power. The album was a musical masterpiece, blending pop, rock, funk, and even a touch of disco. It had hits like Billie Jean, Beat It, and the title track Thriller, each one unique yet perfectly fitting into the album's cohesive whole.

And let's not forget the iconic music videos. The one for Thriller is the best-selling music video of all time, with over 9 million copies sold. It's a 14-minute horror film that's as much a part of pop culture as the album itself.

Still Going Strong

Even after all these years, Thriller is still going strong. It's been certified 30 times platinum by the RIAA, making it the best-selling album of all time in the U.S. And globally, it's not far behind, with estimates suggesting it's sold over 100 million copies worldwide.
